Non-profits are coordinating efforts to aid the 1.5 million people thought to have been impacted by the intense earthquake that hit Chile on Saturday.
The following organizations are accepting donations for Chilean relief efforts:
—American Red Cross: The organization has committed $50,000 to Chile relief operations. Specify donations to Chile disaster relief. www.redcross.org.
—AmeriCares: The nonprofit disaster relief and humanitarian aid organization is sending a rapid response team to provide relief in Chile. www.americares.org
—Direct Relief International: The medical assistance and disaster relief agency has offered to assist Chilean authorities. www.directrelief.org
—Habitat for Humanity: The non-profit is mobilizing resources to help shelter low-income families affected by the quake. www.habitat.org
—The Salvation Army: The Salvation Army has mobilized emergency services in Chile. Donations should specify “Chile Earthquake.” www.salvationarmy.org
—World Vision: World Vision enables sponsorship of children in poverty in Chile and elsewhere. The non-profit also has a site that collects funds to provide life-saving essentials to survivors of the earthquake. www.worldvision.org
