Back in 2005 when I was living in Rosetown, I had this cute little grey cat hanging around my house. It was a cold January, -40 at times with the windchill. The tips of her ears were starting to freeze off and she was clearly hungry. Being the softie I am, I took her in, named her Mojo, and we had 13 great years of kitty cuddles together.
Today I had to put her to sleep as her kidneys were failing. I’ve put pets down before and it doesn’t get any easier. But I read a Facebook post recently about how a vet said one of the hardest parts of their job was when owners choose not to stay for the injection, the pet is often looking for their owner to calm them, but many owners find it difficult to stay.
I was one of those pet owners until today. Today I stayed with her and held her to calm her. It was surprisingly fast and peaceful. And now she’s not suffering anymore.
Thanks to the staff at Green Acres Pet Hospital for getting her in so quick and your compassion.
